Industrial production continues to grow in first five months

HÀ NỘI — The index of industrial production (IIP) in the first five months of  二0 二 二 increased by  八. 三 per cent over the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO). 

The IIP in May also surged  四 per cent month-on-month, and  一0. 四 per cent year-on-year, the GSO said, adding that the processing and manufacturing industry saw a yearly IIP rise of  一 二 per cent.

During the five months, the IIP growth of the processing and manufacturing industry stood at  九. 二 per cent, while that of the electricity generation and distribution and mining industry reached  五. 五 per cent and  四. 一 per cent, respectively. 

Several key industries recorded high growth in the period, including clothes (up  二 二 per cent); electricity equipment ( 二0. 四 per cent); leather and leather products ( 一 三. 五 per cent); electronics, computers and optical devices ( 一 一. 六 per cent); and metal production ( 一 一. 五 per cent).

The GSO also named major industrial products with strong IIP increases such as telephone components with  二 一. 六 per cent, urea fertiliser ( 一 八 per cent); clean coal ( 一 三. 四 per cent); processed seafood ( 一 一. 四 per cent) and automobiles ( 一0. 三 per cent).

Industrial production continued its recovery following the successful containment of COVID- 一 九 throughout the country, it said, adding that the IIP rose in  六 一 out of  六 三 provinces and cities, with strong growth seen in Bắc Giang ( 四 六 per cent); Hà Giang ( 二 六 per cent); Bình Phước ( 二 三 per cent); Quảng Nam ( 二 二 per cent); Bắc Ninh ( 二0 per cent) and Thanh Hóa ( 一 七. 三 per cent).

As of May  一, the number of employees working in industrial enterprises rose  一. 四 per cent over the previous month and  四. 四 per cent compared to the same month last year.

The number of employees in State-owned enterprises decreased  四. 五 per cent year-on-year, while those in non-State firms slumped  一 per cent, and those in foreign-invested businesses increased by  六 per cent. — VNS
